Mountains to Mountains is an organization that helps to bridge people around the world who live in or enjoy visiting the mountains. We are working to create a community of people who can learn from one another by sharing knowledge and support. We provide training courses and programs that help to improve whole body health (mind, body and soul), by focusing on healing from trauma. We offer courses on lay person trauma care in remote areas as well as courses and workshops on strengthening mental health response to trauma. It is encouraged for those who can lend financial support to travel with us in order to take one of our courses alongside people living in more remote areas. Courses and programs will be offered at no cost to those that are living in these areas that have limited access to immediate trauma care and/ or mental health resources. This will allow us all to establish a lasting connection and gain an understanding on new ways to approach trauma resiliency.

Mission Statement

Mountains to Mountains seeks to bridge mountain communities around the world by fostering connections that encourage the sharing of medical resources and traditional spiritual knowledge, promoting health, resilience, and cultural preservation.

Inception

From as far back as I can remember I have loved all things outdoors, especially in the mountains. I grew up in Vail, Colorado where I began skiing at age 2. It has and will always be one of the major passions of my life. I ski raced through high school then transitioned to park and big mountain skiing, where I was able to do so professionally. I now spend most of my ski days with my kids, which has brought me more joy than imaginable. I am also an avid mountain biker, continuing to take part in long distance racing when I can find the time.

After spending my childhood in Vail I made my way to Boulder where I studied Integrative Physiology at the University of Colorado. Subsequently I attended medical school at Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Parker, Colorado. I chose to pursue a career in Emergency Medicine and completed my residency in Columbus, Ohio. Following that, I worked At Holy Cross Hospital in Taos, NM for several years. With changes to our family and my husband’s growing business we moved to Park City, UT. I decided after much contemplation to do a fellowship in Global Health at the University of Utah. After doing so I stayed on as faculty at the institution which is where I am currently working.
When I was deciding whether to complete a fellowship in global health my mother found a picture I had drawn at the age of 11, which showed me with a stethoscope around my neck on a boat sailing around the world to “help as many people as possible.” The timing of that picture popping up after 25 years was my sign to follow my heart. I took part in projects abroad from the start of medical school, but I wanted to dedicate more of my practice to global health work. Over the years I have participated in projects in Kenya, Honduras, Ecuador, Peru, and India. I love working and learning from other individuals and organizations and continue to do so. But I also wanted to launch an NGO that would align with my priorities of bridging people/ communities in a meaningful and lasting way. I was lucky enough to have others in my life that were willing to take the journey with me, especially Casey Odell.

Lastly but most importantly I am a wife and mother. My husband Charles Mumford is my biggest and most fervent supporter. He is always in my corner. We met in college and connected through our love of skiing. We married in 2016. In 2020 we had Oliver our first of two sons. Just a short 16 months later we had Sebastien and our family was complete. My boys are the light of my life, my true purpose, and my motivation to try and make the world a little better.
